What is the Morman diet?

In this article, we are going to discuss the “Morman diet”. I will include the food that is consumed on the Morman diet with an analysis of the benefits they have for the body.

What is the Morman diet?

The Morman diet is the diet of a religious group of people following the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their principles are focused on preserving the human body and maintaining its health. 

So the Morman diet focused on whole food and limiting food that is harmful to the body. All aspects of the body are important and essential to take care of, whether it is spiritual, physical, or emotional.

Because Mormons preserve their bodies against harm, they do not consume alcohol. Alcohol leads to many health issues and drawbacks. They also stay away from anything that can contain caffeine in them. 

Caffeinated drinks such as tea or beverages. They also stay away from drugs, especially illegal drugs that can be harmful to the body causing harm and addiction.

The diet consists of whole food. Meaning food that actually brings benefit and health to them. Mormons believe that eating food that is processed or artificial would spoil and corrupt the body. That is why they focus on eating food that is whole and nutritious. 


Grains are nutritious and rich in vitamins and fiber. Consuming grains that are still whole grains, meaning the husk has not been removed is even better. It provides so much fiber and vitamins. Grains are the main focus of the Morman diet. 

There are two kinds of grains, whole grains that are rich with the fiber I talked about, and refined grains that remove all the fiber content from the seed.

Grains are packed with vitamins and minerals. It is rich in B vitamins, iron, magnesium, and selenium. Fiber is rich in these whole grains, which reduces the risk of heart diseases, and supports healthy bowels.

Fruits and Vegetables 

Fruits and vegetables are also encouraged in the Morman diet. Fruits and vegetables are a part of a healthy nutritious diet, they include vitamins and minerals the body needs to function normally. One of the major vitamins is vitamin C in fruits and some vegetables.

 It is essential for the immune system’s health. Having a healthy immune system reduces the risk of infection and illnesses. Green leafy vegetables are also rich in iron. A mineral needed for the production of red blood cells. They are also rich in fiber, soluble and insoluble fibers.

Milk products

Milk products are also included in the Morman diet. Milk products are a rich source of protein for the body. They also are a great source of calcium and vitamin D ( if fortified with vitamin D). 

Calcium is crucial for bone health and protection from osteoporosis. So many diets lack calcium content in it which leads to a reduction in bone density and increased risk of fractures.


Beans are also encouraged on the Morman diet. They pack a lot of nutrients in them. They are rich in protein, iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and folate. They are high in fiber which promotes satiety and you feel less hungry.

 They are also low in glycemic index which makes them a good option as food. Beans do not spike your blood sugar which can be included as a food for those with diabetes. 


Oils are allowed on the Morman diet. Many oils are heart-healthy. One of these oils is olive oil. It can be used for cooking and included in salads and dishes. 

Meat and poultry 

Meat and poultry are included in the Morman diet as well. Yet they are advised to be consumed in moderation. Meat is rich in B vitamins and iron. Red meat contains fat, especially saturated fat that should be limited in your diet to not more than 10%.

Balanced meals

The Morman diet focuses on balanced nutritious diets that provide essential nutrition for the body. A balanced diet should not cause excess weight gain or excess weight loss. The purpose is moderation with consumption. It also suggests fasting a day each month and giving away charity money.
